Our accreditations: Millie’s Mark

Little Hands are always working on ways to be the highest quality nursery possible and one way we do this is to apply for a number of accreditations which fit our ethos and aims and make a measurable difference to the service we provide. Millie’s Mark is an exceptional achievement for a childcare setting, as it shows we are going above and beyond the minimum requirement to keep children safe in relation to paediatric first aid.

Currently the EYFS guidelines state:

“ at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on premises and available at all times when children are present and must accompany children on outings”

Little Hands go above and beyond to ensure that all of our staff are Paediatric First Aid trained, from Apprentices to our Managers and Directors. We want to ensure that all children get the best possible care when at Little Hands and that includes being given First Aid when needed. All staff update their First Aid skills every three years (as a minimum) and take Paediatric First Aid refresher courses throughout the year.

The aim of Millie’s mark is to raise standards in Paediatric First Aid, increase the number of First Aid trained practitioners, increase confidence and competency in applying First Aid and raising skills of a workforce in helping them with day to day First Aid issues, such as allergies.

Little Hands strive to give the best possible care for each and every child, this also includes each member of staff being trained in how to administer an auto adrenaline injector, this training is also mandatory for each member of staff. Little Hands ensure our staff team get the best possible training, especially in First Aid, so we hold regular recaps during our Buddy up Month Sessions where staff test each other’s knowledge in First Aid and this helps identify any areas of support.

We will also be holding a Parent Workshop on First Aid in April 2024 where parents will be able to learn some basic First Aid skills.
