Our 2022 roundup

2022 roundup

2022 sees the end of our 13th year as Little Hands Daycare and we are just as excited as ever to enter another year of adventures. Here’s a summarised celebration of what last year held for us.

This would usually be the space where we talk about our charity partner (singular) for the year, but this time; we need some additional space. Setting out in 2022 to raise the funds for a Defibrillator at our Stourbridge branch, our teams did an incredible job of organising events and opportunities to fundraise. Thanks to each of our incredible families who donated and contributed their time to events, the fundraising goal was met by the end of Summer!

Both our Amblecote and Stourbridge branches now have a defibrillator on site and whilst we hope they never need to be used, we are glad to increase the number of these life saving devices in our local area. (Thanks also to the support of London Hearts charity in the purchasing and installing of the device and to one particular family who donated a large sum of money to complete our fundraising journey).

In September of 2022 our teams were keen to consider our next charity partner with the vision to maximise the benefit to our local community once more. The decision was made to find out more about Black Country Food Bank and how we could support them. A hugely successful ‘Autumn harvest’ donation left our teams energised and excited to continue this work. Our Amblecote and Stourbridge branches both have Food Bank donation points at their entrances and are in regular communication with Black Country Food Bank to make sure our donations are relevant and received in a timely manner. Thanks as always goes to each of our families who generously donate and assist us to support such incredible causes. If you would like to find out more about Black Country Food Bank, our partner for the remainder of 2022 and into 2023 you can do so here:

February 2022 was an exciting month which won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Our Amblecote branch welcomed an inspection from Ofsted and achieved the highest grading of Outstanding for the second consecutive inspection. Our entire team work breathtakingly hard each day to keep standards within our nurseries at the highest level. The rewards of this working are incredible and to receive additional recognition from a professional body such as Ofsted is truly amazing. Read the report here:

Summer 2022 saw the bittersweet departure of our Preschool graduates…off on their next adventure and then to the rest of their lives. We are incredibly proud of each child who joins us on their early years journey and send buckets of well wishes to each of them as they continue to explore.

Pandemic recovery has been the most successful throughout 2022 and we were able to welcome all families back into our buildings with a full parent partnership calendar including our first Christmas event since 2019! We hoped the C word would not creep into our roundup of 2022 so it’s purposely not getting anymore limelight than this. We so value any time we can spend with families and appreciate each and every parent, grandparent, sibling, Aunt or Uncle who has taken time out of their day to attend an event within the nurseries with our staff teams and children. Our staff teams worked tirelessly to plan a Christmas event to remember and we were blown away by the amount of families who attended and your wonderful feedback for the event. As always, Santa was a welcome visit for each of the children! With the addition of a visit from Olaf and our overflowing bake sale, it’s safe to say we already can’t wait for the next event.

2022 saw the continuation of our accreditations including Sun Safety, Communication Friendly Settings and Healthy Settings Awards which allow our teams to consider the holistic development and wellbeing of our children each year. Our branches both received Environmental Health inspections and were awarded the highest grading of 5. Finally, we began our Eco Schools journey for a longer term focus on sustainability. Thank you again to each of our families and children who have joined our eco committees and are supporting us to become a more sustainable business and learn lots of interesting things about the planet along the way. If you would like to know more about Eco Schools and our journey you can see a monthly update in our newsletter (https://littlehandsdaycare.co.uk/news/) or visit the Eco Schools website here: https://www.eco-schools.org.uk/

We continue to focus on adaptability within our long term quest for high quality practices for all. Because of this, we continue to evaluate our processes and make adjustments as necessary to suit both children, families and our staff teams. With this in mind, from early 2023 we will be welcoming a new role to both branches of Assistant Manager who is supported by a senior manager. This will allow additional career progression opportunities for our senior team members and encourage greater learning and support opportunities throughout our teams who are sharing additional experience and expertise with each other.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff, children and families for their continued support. We are extremely excited for everything to come in 2023 and all of our future adventures!
