Sun safety

You may have seen this symbol on our website, on certificates within the nursery or within our email sign offs. But what does it mean, and why do we keep using it?
At Little Hands, we are always keen to know more about important subjects. After researching the topic of sun and skin safety, we came across this accreditation (https://www.sunsafenurseries.co.uk).
We felt this was a great opportunity for us to evaluate our current procedures and to consider what more we can do to educate our staff team and to support children’s knowledge of their skin and sun safety. Little Hands has proudly held this accreditation throughout 2020 and again in 2021.
A Sun safety agreement is available to all families that join Little Hands and we have a policy to support this further. Working in partnership with our families allows everyone to have a greater understanding of how to enjoy the sun safely. This looks like being conscious of how much time we spend in direct sunlight between the hours of 11:00 15:00. It also includes allowing children to be active parts of their sun protection process. Children, wherever able, are encouraged to apply and help with their own sun cream.
