This month, our Toddler Room team have taken the time to review one of our favourite stories, ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
With repetitive phrases and rhythm, this longer story book stil manages to maintain children’s attention. Mathematical language is encouraged when children consider quantities and weights of objects. Not only do children remember and repeat familiar phrases within the story, some children enjoy creating their own imaginative play scenarios with similar rhymes or characters. At nursery, we have the hardback version of this book but you can also find it in paperback.
Images on each page are detailed enough to give children a great idea of the story being told. This makes the book especially beneficial to those children who like to engage in independent reading time. Staff enjoy extending learning from this book by building loose parts and natural material houses both inside and out with the children. Children love to consider the wind blowing outside and compare this to the breath of the wolf.
Toddler Room gave this book a 4 out of 5 rating.
