Book club: February 2021

A book about animals is always a huge hit! The colours within are bright and inviting. It hold’s the children’s attention with familiar animals such as birds, crocodiles & an elephant.

The book introduces relevant topics to children of ranging ages and so would work throughout nursery life. Our under 2s enjoy seeing the animals help the elephant and in particular, how we can be clean.

This book isn’t a hard back and so our under 2s need lots of supervision and role modelling to use the book safely. So far, it is lasting the test of time.

Although the book does not easily suggest physical supports to use, the staff have improvised and added play food to the story asking children to feed the animals. They found this enjoyable as well as considering what foods animals might or might not want to eat.

The language used within the book makes it an easy and enjoyable read. However, there are a nice range of social discussions, physical language and interesting topics which encourage wide ranges of learning to take place.

Out of 5, our Baby & Pre-Toddler staff would give the book a 4.
