Transitions: parent interview

Last week, Sheridan and Lucy, our Stourbridge Branch management team, took some time to virtually interview one of our parents. We continuously seek parental feedback as it really helps to support our growth and drive quality forward. Transitions is something that we work tirelessly on to ensure that all children and their families feel safe and secure when starting at nursery or moving between rooms. Take a look at what one of our parents had to say to our team…

What parts of the transition process do you feel worked well for your child, before they first started nursery?

I can’t fault the transition process at Little Hands. It’s a scary time for any parent, and knowing that our daughter was safe and well cared for was our priority. Little Hands provided this, and more! It was so reassuring for us as parents that our daughter also enjoyed her time at nursery, and also felt safe and comfortable in the environment. Little Hands offered ‘stay and play sessions’ for our daughter to attend before her first full day at nursery, which were so beneficial. The first stay and play session, I was able to stay. We were able to meet our daughter’s key person and talk about her routine, likes and dislikes. This also meant that our daughter was able to become familiar with the setting before I left her. The second stay and play session was by herself, so she could really start to bond with her key person and staff without us there. This made her first day so much easier as she was already familiar with the setting and faces at nursery.

How did your child’s key person help to aid the transition process?

Our daughter’s key person has been amazing. The bond that they have built has been so lovely to see. She definitely made the transition of leaving her at nursery so much easier. She knew everything about her and always knew when she would need that extra reassurance. This definitely makes Little Hands feel like a home from home.

When your child first started nursery, what communication methods from the setting helped you and your child, feel reassured and confident in the transition process?

The communication from Little Hands has been outstanding from the very first time we called up to view the nursery. Hand overs have always been excellent and really helped reassure me that our daughter was in excellent care. It also meant that we were able to share any information on drop offs and collection which made us feel confident that our daughters needs for the day would be met. Management communication is also excellent, emails are responded to very promptly and they are always happy to talk over the phone when needed. As parents, this made us feel reassured that our daughter was well cared for at nursery.

What advice would you pass onto other parents whose children maybe starting nursery soon?

For any parents whose child will be starting nursery, we can assure you that your child/ren will be safe and well cared for at Little Hands. You can ask staff or management any questions or queries, they will always provide you with answers and reassure you.
