Take a look at what some of our team think about Bill Martin Jr and Eric Carle’s story, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’.
Beth says, “It’s an amazing book full of learning opportunities including Makaton, colours and animal noises”
It’s repetitive and interactive as well as including simple questions that the children can answer. Mathematics is encouraged through opportunities for colour learning as well as animal names and noises. The children enjoy this book so much, that most of the 2 year olds can recall the story from just looking at the pictures!
The book isn’t a hard back, so lots of encouragement is needed with the under 3s to keep the book safe. The book lends itself very well to visual supports such as the addition of animals and colours around the room. Staff also enjoy encouraging the use of appropriate Makaton signs for each animal and colour.
Lauren loves that the book “is an easy read but can easily be extended”. The staff in the Toddler Room particularly enjoy considering where animals might live & using the resources available within the play spaces to support this.
Our staff rate this book a 5 out of 5 because the children even enjoy reading the book independently to their peers!
